Radriani

S. Basilio? (Barrington)

Listen to the story

Radriani is the map's garbled form of Atria, now Adria in the Po delta, the old port that gave its name to the Adriatic Sea. Greek painted vases found here show how far its trade reached, and a guild of boatmen is known from its inscriptions. Today the town lies about twenty-five kilometres inland, and already in the time of the Greek geographer Strabo a canal was needed to reach the sea.
