Rarauna

Rom

Rarauna is Rom, a village east of Melle on the little river Dive, in the land of the Pictones between Saintes and Poitiers. The Roman register of routes calls it Rauranum, and the poet Paulinus, a native of Bordeaux, names it Raraunum in a poem to Ausonius. Several milestones counted in leagues have been found at Rom itself, and one at Brioux gives fourteen, probably counted from Rom. Traces of the Roman road could still be seen there in older times.
