Rama

(near La Roche-de-Rme) (Barrington) · Casse-Rom (Miller)

Rama lay on the Durance in the kingdom of Cottius, in the land of the Caturiges, and the name still lives on in La Roche-de-Rame. The pilgrim from Bordeaux changed horses here, and all four silver cups from Vicarello agree with the map on seventeen miles from Embrun. Local tradition holds that the medieval village of Rama was swept away by a flood of the Durance in the twelfth century; older research therefore placed the Roman station at Casse-Rom, between La Roche and Champcella, near where the Biaisse joins the Durance.
