Pudizo

near Kayova

Pudizo is a clipped name: the full form, Tarpodizo, appears in the Roman register of routes and in the Bordeaux pilgrim's itinerary, and the map has lost its first syllable. The ending comes from the Thracian word for a fortress; the beginning may mean a cleft or gap. It was a change of horses in the south-western Strandzha hills, on the inland road from Byzantion to Ancialis, north-east of Adrianople. The exact spot is unknown; it is sought near Kayova, north of today's Kırklareli, or at Kofçaz.
