Propasta
Frāh, Farah (Miller)
Propasta is probably a slip for Prophthasia, the name Alexander the Great gave in 330 BC to Phrada, a town of the Drangians near Farah in western Afghanistan. Here Philotas, one of Alexander's commanders, was executed for supposedly knowing of a plot against the king, a verdict that ancient historians already questioned. Greek and Latin writers count the city among the largest of the Hellenistic East, and excavations found a citadel, bronze and gold objects and masses of pottery from the 6th to the 1st century BC. On the map, the region names Media and Drangiane seem to have swapped places.
