Pudput

Souk-el-Abiod

Pudput was a town of the province of Africa on the Tunisian coast, at Souk el-Abiod, where the remains of an amphitheatre survive. Its roots were probably Punic, but under Commodus, who ruled from 176 to 192, it became a Roman colony. It was the home town of the jurist Salvius Julianus, as an inscription found there records. Its bishops are named in church records of 411 and 646, and another inscription names one in 484.
