Siagu

Ksar-ez-Zit (Barrington) · bei Kasr ez Sit

Siagu was a town of the province of Africa, whose ruins lie at Ksar ez-Zit in eastern Tunisia; inscriptions found there call it the civitas Siagitana. Its Punic roots ran deep: in AD 28, under Tiberius, its council and citizens styled themselves senate and people and were led by a sufete, the old Punic title of a chief magistrate. Only by the second and third centuries had ordinary town councillors taken their place. The coastal town of Pupput, three miles off, seems to have served as its harbour.
