Sicione
Vasiliko · Βασιλικό
Sicione is Sicyon, near Vasiliko in Greece, a city whose name was explained as a field of cucumbers; earlier it had been called Mecone, and before that Aegialeia. For generations it was ruled by tyrants, according to the Greek philosopher Aristotle the longest-lasting dynasty of tyrants anywhere, until Aratus freed it and made it a pillar of the Achaean League. King Demetrius moved the town up onto a naturally fortified plateau, and the old town became its harbour. Sicyon was famous for its school of painters. On the map it has no symbol, standing in the shadow of Corinth.
