Silutum
Gravina di Puglia (Barrington)
Listen to the story
Silutum is Silvium, near Gravina in Puglia, which the Greek geographer Strabo calls a frontier town of the Peucetians, where the hills of Apulia rise towards the mountains of Lucania. In 306 BC the Romans stormed it after the Samnites had occupied it, and Sulla passed through in 83 BC; later it became a well-known bishop's seat. On the map the road to Pisandes seems to branch off here, although it really began at Venusia.
