Road station
Sirotis
Verőce
Listen to the story
Sirotis, the Serota of a Roman register of routes, was a station with lodgings on the Drava road near Virovitica in Croatia, called Verőce in Hungarian; older research placed it at Orešac, where a Roman inscription was found. The pilgrim from Bordeaux also stopped at the mansio of Serota, and the Greek geographer Ptolemy lists a Siroga. The map sets Sirotis ten Roman miles from Iovia and ten from Bolentium.
