Siclis

Resnik

Siclis lies at Resnik near Split in Croatia, and the map gives it a small, unusually careful drawing: a rectangular building with its roof tiles sketched in, much like the pictures used for spas, though the copyist seems to have reworked it. The place began as a colony of the Greek city of Issa, with a harbour that has since been excavated underwater, and the Roman writer Pliny lists it as a colony of veterans settled under the emperor Claudius. Oddly, the nine miles to Salona, about thirteen kilometres, are entered, but the road line itself was forgotten.
