Sicanabis

Gudava

Sicanabis lay on the coast road of Colchis, nineteen Roman miles, about twenty-eight kilometres, beyond Chobus, and just four short of Cyanes. Ancient writers knew the river here as the Singames, the geographer Ptolemy lists a Siganeum, and the Ravenna list writes Sigamium. The station is placed at Gudava, while older research looked for it near Anaklia, at the mouth of the Inguri. On the map it is a bare name without a picture.
