Cyanes

Očamčire

Cyanes is linked with Gyenos, a town of Colchis named in an ancient Greek guide to the coasts, and with the settlement found during harbour building at Ochamchire in 1935 and the following year. People lived there from the sixth century BC to the sixth century AD, on three artificial mounds ringed by ditches, in timber buildings with floors of rammed clay. Beside local Colchian ware lay Greek pottery from Ionia and Athens, and the latest building was a church of the sixth century AD. The map sets the station twelve Roman miles, about eighteen kilometres, from Tassiros.
