Cusum

Petrovaradin

Listen to the story

Cusum is Petrovaradin in Serbia, across the Danube from Novi Sad, a Roman station and fort on the river road through Lower Pannonia, where Dalmatian horsemen were stationed and a monument to Mithras was found. Milestones from here count sixteen miles back to Malata. The figure for the next stage, to Acumincum, is a puzzle: it reads forty, far too much, but eleven would fit the ground, and perhaps damage to the parchment has made an I look like an L.
