Listen to the story
The map writes Lvria here, with an L, yet this is Curia, now Chur in Graubünden, and it appears a second time on a road just below: the route from Lake Constance to Lake Como is drawn twice, probably once for the Splügen and once for the San Bernardino pass. Chur was a station on the roads to the Alpine passes even before the Romans, became a Roman village after Augustus conquered the Alps, and has been the seat of a bishop since the fifth century.
