Road station

Declana

La Jonquera

Listen to the story

Declana, more correctly Deciana, was the last station in Spain before the pass over the Pyrenees, only four miles below the summit. The Greek geographer Ptolemy knows it as Dekiana, and the name probably comes from the estate of a man called Decius. It is placed at La Jonquera, though its exact site has never been fixed. From the border here, the Roman register of routes counts sixty-three miles to Narbonne and two hundred and seventy-seven to Antibes.
