Delta

el Warraq in S Delta? (Barrington)

Delta stands on the map as a name on its own, and only its last two letters survive on the parchment today; the printed editions of 1598 and 1753 could still read the whole word. Older research took it for a town in the Nile Delta, perhaps at el Warraq. Ancient writers point to a region instead: Strabo describes the land called Delta, enclosed by the branches of the Nile, and also knows a village of that name at its apex, while Pliny says the region was often simply called Egypt.
