Cyme

Nemrut Limanı

Cyme, at Nemrut Limanı, was by the account of the Greek geographer Strabo the largest and finest of the Aeolian cities, almost a mother city to the rest, yet the map gives it only a plain name with no picture. Hesiod's father came from here, and so did the historian Ephorus, who even claimed Homer for his home town. Legend named the city after an Amazon leader. Strabo also retells jokes about the slow wits of its people, who supposedly waited three hundred years before they thought of making money from harbour dues.
