Attalia

Attalia, probably the Attea of the Greek geographer Strabo, lay on the coast road near Dikili, fifteen Roman miles, about twenty-two kilometres, from Elatia and ten from Ela, a figure that is probably too small. Older research equated it with Atarneus, an old city by Mount Cane in grain-rich country, which by Pliny's day had shrunk to a village in the court district of Pergamon. Between Pergamon and this place, Strabo says, lay the rich gold mines of the old Lydian kings.
