Elatia

bei Ayvalık (Aiwaly · Ivalee) ?

Elatia is just a name on the coastal road here, with no picture beside it, and it may be a garbled Heraclea. A small place of that name, a village belonging to Mytilene, is mentioned on this coast by the Greek geographer Strabo and the Roman writer Pliny, and it is usually placed near Ayvalık, opposite Lesbos, though no finds have yet proved it. The island itself the map draws far off to the left. The five Roman miles from Corifanio suit Ayvalık, but the onward figures would put the station well to the south.
