Elefantaria

Sidi-Said (Barrington) · Ahmed Djedidi (Miller)

Elefantaria begins on the map with a C instead of an E, surely the copyist's slip, but the C is what stands there. Several places in Roman Africa bore this name; this one was a station on the road through the Bagradas valley from Carthage to Hippo Regius, with ruins a little west of Medjez el Bab, the ancient Membrissa. A branch road left here for Tichilla, crossing the Bagradas on a bridge still visible at Testour. A lone figure seven on the map, drawn with no line, probably belongs to the short stretch between this station and Membrissa.
