Tignica

Ain-Tounga

Listen to the story

Tignica is Thignica, at Ain Tounga in Tunisia, a town that collected grand titles: one inscription calls it the Septimian, Aurelian, Herculean and fruitful municipium, honouring the imperial house and the god Hercules, and later it became a colony named after other emperors in turn. Among its many ruins stands a temple of a purely Libyan cult. Many of its inscribed stones were carried off to build the Moorish town of Testour, where they can still be seen.
