Tincollo

Sancoins

Tincollo is Sancoins, in the land of the Bituriges on the road from Bourges to Decize. The Roman register of routes gives the fuller form Tincontium, and a medieval form reads Tincentium. The map's figure onward to Decize is curious: for lack of space the number thirty-three is written in two rows, one above the other, while the Roman register of routes gives twenty-two, which older research held to be correct. Where this stretch begins is not marked on the map at all.
