Membrissa

Medjez-el-Bab

Listen to the story

Membrissa is Membressa, now Medjez el Bab by the river Medjerda in Tunisia, a stop on the highway from Hippo Regius to Carthage. Bishops of Membressa are recorded again and again between 258 and 649 AD, and in the wars of late antiquity both the Byzantine historian Procopius and the poet Corippus mention the place. The map's sixteen Roman miles to Tichilla are too many; about nine would fit.
