Meteglo

Melun

Meteglo is Melun on the Seine in France, an island town of the Senones like Paris. In 52 BC Caesar's general Labienus took it by surprise, to win its bridge over the river for his attack on Lutetia. Its Celtic name, Metlosedum, meant the seat of Metlos, perhaps the mower; the Romans turned it into Meclodunum, the fort of Metlos, and that form lives on in Melun. The map garbles it once more, into Meteglo.
