Egilan

? Karaağaç Limanı bei Cide

Egilan is a garbled Aigialos, the Beach, a long strand on the Black Sea coast of Paphlagonia with a village of the same name, probably today's Karaağaç Limanı near Cide; Homer names it beside Kromna. Lucian tells how, in 159, sailors who were meant to kill him on the way to Amastris took pity and set him ashore at Aigialoi instead, where he found a ship from the Bosporus. Finds around Cide point to a thriving countryside in Roman times. Like its neighbours, it is wrongly moved inland on the map.
