Scylleum

Scylleum is a slip for Psylleion, the trading post of Psylla on the Black Sea coast of Bithynia; a copyist perhaps thought of the sea monster Scylla. It lay north-east of Heraclea, probably in the bay at the mouth of the Çatalağzı river, with good links inland, though no ancient remains are known. Its name survived on late medieval sea charts as Pisilli or Picello. On the map the figure to Tium had to be squeezed in above and to the right of the name, and its twelve miles are more than the real distance.
