Scyllam

? bei Ormanli

Scyllam is written in the accusative, as if a traveller's note read 'to Scylla'; the place was probably named after the sea monster Scylla. It lay on the Black Sea coast of Thrace, perhaps at today's Ormanli on the Istranca stream, where there was an open harbour, or near Podima. Close behind it ran the Long Wall that Emperor Anastasius, who reigned from 491 to 518, had built across Thrace from Selymbria to Scylla, two days' journey long, to shield Constantinople.
