Manoris

Doğancı

Manoris is a slip for Mandris, as the Ravenna list writes it: a copyist seems to have read a small d as an o. The name comes from the Greek word for a cattle pen, a favourite place name in Asia Minor. The station lay on the main road from Nicomedia to Gangra, perhaps at Doğancı near Lake Çağa, where several ancient gravestones have been found. If so, the twenty miles the map gives from Claudiopolis are too few, and a numeral may have dropped out.
