Road station
Scolla
Scolla is known only from this map, a station in Cappadocia on the road from Tyana towards Mazaca Caesarea, and its site is unknown. Where the map puts it, a good fit would be Dasmendron, now Ovacık, a bishop's seat from middle Byzantine times, where a cave settlement with churches and monasteries survives; ancient worked stones built into one of its little cave churches hint at older roots. Perhaps the station was a forerunner of that place, or another name for it. The start of the stretch to Cibistra is not marked; perhaps a drawn mountain range, a spur of the Taurus, was meant to serve instead.
