Road station

Addaualis

Addavalis is a slip for Andabalis, where the Bordeaux pilgrim noted the estate of Pammatius, source of chariot horses; in the time of the emperor Valerian its famous stud bred horses for the races and the imperial post. A road station with an inn grew up on the estate and still served travellers in Ottoman times. The village of Andaval keeps the name, and its church, founded by Constantine and Helena according to legend, once had a stone with a Neo-Hittite inscription built into its walls, now in the museum at Niğde. The map counts twenty-seven miles from Tyana, where the road books give only sixteen.
