Ad deam Bocontiorum

Die

Listen to the story

Ad deam Bocontiorum, at the goddess of the Vocontii, is Die, the religious centre of that people. Its name comes from the goddess Andarta, whom inscriptions always call the Dea Augusta, and the town became a Roman colony, Dea Augusta Vocontiorum. Inscriptions also name temples of Jupiter and of Cybele and Attis, and remains of aqueducts, baths, bridges and cemeteries have been found. On the map the words Ad deam stand in capitals above the rest of the name, which is spelt with a B for the V of Vocontii.
