Ad Confluentes

S. Giovanni in Compito nahe Savignano [5]

Listen to the story

A Roman bridge of three arches at Savignano sul Rubicone, near the station Ad Confluentes, still carries the Via Aemilia, built for far more water than the little Fiumicino brings today. The name means at the confluence: two streams met here that now reach the sea separately, and the pilgrim's route from Bordeaux knows the place as a stop for changing horses. The Fiumicino is one of three streams that dispute the honour of being the real Rubicon.
