Ad Centenarium

(bei El Abid, oder H. Tassa oder Titeluine) (Miller)

Listen to the story

Ad Centenarium lay in Numidia, in present-day Algeria, perhaps near El Abid or at the ruins of Tassa, on the road from Lambaesis to Zarai; its site is not certain. The name refers to a centenarium, a word used in late Roman Africa for a small fortified post. Here a road branched off by way of Ad Dianam to Vicus Aurelii. The list of places compiled in Ravenna garbles the name as Orgentarium. The map sets the station fifteen Roman miles from Ad Dianam and ten from Lamasba, but its figures on to Zarai add up to far more than the direct distance.
