Road station

Ad cisternas

bei Karrah

Ad Cisternas means at the cisterns, the tanks in which water was stored. The stop is sought near Karrah in Libya, and Ptolemy probably lists it as Kisternai. Twenty-five Roman miles from Casa Rimoniana, the road divides here: fifteen miles lead to Naladus, thirty-five straight to Dissio Aqua Amara. The Roman register of routes has a stop called Thebunte on this stretch; one suggestion equated it with Tubactis, which hardly seems possible.
