Ad Centenarium

Fedj Deriasse (Miller) · (between Tigisis and Gadiaufala) (Barrington)

At Ad Centenarium the copyist's line wandered: the name curves slightly upward at its end, for no clear reason, and he let the road follow the curve before returning to the horizontal, which left an extra, needless stretch on the way to Ad Rubras. The station lay in eastern Numidia, six Roman miles from Thenebreste, perhaps at Fedj Deriasse in Algeria. Its name points to a centenarium, as late Roman Africa called a small fortified post, and the historian Procopius seems to know it as Kentouriai.
