Bulla Regia
Hammam-Darradji
Bulla Regia, royal Bulla, was a stronghold of the Numidian kingdom: in 81 BC King Iarbas fled here and was handed over to Pompey. Rome made it a free town, which the Roman writer Pliny counts to Numidia, though the bishops' list of 484 places it in the province of Africa. The ruins lie at Hammam Darradji near Jendouba in Tunisia, by a stream that still bears the town's name, close to the plain where, Procopius says, the Vandals gathered as they fell back from Carthage. On the map the road line swerves abruptly, and rather clumsily, right under the name.
