Brocomacus

Brumath

Brocomacus is Brumath near Strasbourg, the chief town of the Triboci; the Celtic name means the field of Brocos. Here, in 356, Julian won a victory over the Alamanni, as the Roman historian Ammianus relates. A milestone counts from the civitas of the Triboci at Brocomagus, and an inscription at Praeneste in Italy records that one Publius Aelius Tiro was given command of German cavalry here by the emperor Commodus at the age of fourteen. The town's cemetery lay at Stephansfeld, just to the south.
