Burginatio

Burginatio is Burginatium, a Roman cavalry fort on the lower Rhine near Kalkar in Germany, either at Altkalkar or on the Monterberg opposite the town, where a field is still called auf dem Born. Inscriptions name cavalry regiments stationed here, among them one raised in Noricum and one from the Vocontii of southern Gaul, and the Roman register of routes also marks the place as the seat of a cavalry unit. Older research tried a whole row of villages along the river before settling on Kalkar.
