Cabilis
Yambol
Cabilis, the Latin by-form of Kabyle, lay at today's Yambol in a bend of the Tonzos river, which the map draws in the wrong place. Demosthenes names it among Philip of Macedon's Thracian conquests, and Strabo says Philip settled the most wicked men there. Later Marcus Lucullus took it in his war against the Bessi. In 378, as the emperor Valens advanced into Thrace, the Gothic leader Fritigern gathered his scattered raiding bands near the town and drew back. The Ravenna list spells it Gavilis.
