Calanico

Cairo Montenotte [4 + Pleiades] · Carcare [3]

Calanico stands for Canalicum, a road station in the Ligurian mountains, in the valley of the Bormida near Cairo Montenotte or Carcare, on the road from Vado on the coast inland to Acqui. The Roman register of routes writes the name Canalico; the map has swapped the letters n and l. Its figures are unsettled too: the map gives twenty Roman miles on to Crixia, which seems too much, since the real distance is about fifteen, while the register gives only ten.
