Burridava

Stolniceni

Burridava, the chief place of the Burridavenses named by the Greek geographer Ptolemy, was a station on the Olt road from the Red Tower Pass down to the Danube, placed at Stolniceni near Râmnicu Vâlcea in Romania. Because Hadrian fortified the Olt line, the local people soon came under Roman influence. Older research looked for it on the left bank of the river, or as far away as Slatina. The map sets Burridava thirteen Roman miles from Pons Aluti and twelve from Castra Traiana.
