Cibistra

Zengibar Kalesi, 4 km sw. von Yeşilhisar, ca. 56 km ssw. von Kayseri

Cibistra is Kyzistra, a place in Cappadocia that the geographer Ptolemy lists right after Mazaca Caesarea. It sits on a commanding height at Zengibar Kalesi near Yeşilhisar, where remains of a large fortress, built in several stages, still stand; the Byzantines called it Guizisdara, and medieval Arabic writers knew it as the commanding fortress. The map's spelling invites confusion with Kybistra, also called Heraclea, a different town near Ereğli, and older research did mix the two up; the Ravenna list's Cizistra suggests that the source shared with the map still had the right form.
