Ciaca

Gegend von Morhamam

Listen to the story

Ciaca shows a tiny hook on the right of its i, probably added so that the slanting letter would read as a letter of its own and not as a stroke joining C and a; some older editions misread the name as Craca. Around 400 a cavalry regiment held this frontier fort on the road from Satala to Melitene. It is sought near Morhamam, whose name, like that of nearby Çermik, recalls a hot bath. The map's twenty-eight miles, about forty-one kilometres, on to Melitene are too many; the Roman register of routes has eighteen.
