Ciclis Limen

heute: bei Port Splantza · Porto Fanári · Frari

Ciclis Limen is a garbled Glykys Limen, the sweet harbour, at the bay of Fanari on the coast of Epirus in Greece, where the river Acheron flows into the sea; the Greek historian Cassius Dio explains that the river freshens the water, hence the name. Before the battle of Actium, Octavian anchored his fleet here, two hundred and fifty ships. The bay has since largely silted up. On the map the road line takes an unusual zigzag here.
