Clambetis

Gračac (surrounding)?

Listen to the story

Clambetis, the Roman Clambetae, lay either near Gračac in Croatia or, as older research held, at Starigrad near Obrovac on the Zrmanja. An inscription from the reign of Tiberius shows that the area was Romanised early in the imperial age, and the town may already have had civic rights under that emperor. At Kruševo, which may have belonged to its territory, lived two retired soldiers of the Praetorian Guard, the emperor's own troops. The list of places compiled in Ravenna writes Crambetis.
