Ausancalione
Sv. Rok or Lovinac
Listen to the story
Ausancalione, the Roman Ausancalio, was a settlement of the Iapodes on the road from Senia to Iader, at Sveti Rok or Lovinac in Croatia. The Greek geographer Ptolemy lists it, and an inscription calls it a municipium, a self-governing town, a rank it probably did not gain before 212. The map sets Ausancalione fifteen Roman miles from Ancus and sixteen from Clambetae, the next station, which older research already counted to Dalmatia.
