Road station
Augustum
Aoste
At Augustum the map splits the road: one branch runs north to Etanna and on towards Geneva, the other east towards Lemincum, today Chambéry, and the Alps. Three roads met at this village of the Allobroges, now Aoste in the Isère, whose name still echoes the Roman one. Inscriptions name its villagers, the vicani Augustani, and one suggests that the village belonged to a larger district. Roman remains have been found there. The name honours Augustus, like that of the other Augustum on the map.
