Augusta

Ca’ Umana? (Barrington)

Listen to the story

Augusta was the station at the Fossa Augusta, the canal Augustus had dug from the Po to Ravenna, so that ships could reach the new naval harbour at Classe, base of the Roman fleet of the Adriatic, from the river as well as from the sea. Traces of the canal have been found in the Valle del Mezzano, a drained lagoon near Comacchio.
