Claterna

Ozzano

Listen to the story

Claterna, on the Via Aemilia near Ozzano between Bologna and Imola, was taken by the consul Hirtius in 43 BC, as Cicero reports. In 393 AD Saint Ambrose listed it among the corpses of half-ruined cities along the road. Its name lives on in the stream Quaderna and the church of Santa Maria di Quaderna, and excavations have uncovered houses with a fine mosaic floor.
